Q: Explain the name Je Je Benji.
A: My first name is Jennifer, but my friends and family have always called me Je or Je Je. My last name is Benjamin and Benji is a common nickname for Benjamin. While brainstorming production names, I wanted to use a name that was catchy and easy to remember. I also wanted a name that truly represented me. Many people already called me Je Je Benji, so as they say, "If it ain't broke..."
Q: When did you first begin writing and making music?
A: I remember as early as 6 years old writing songs and making up melodies on the piano. I even remember a song I wrote when I was 8 years old called Hope. Seriously, I can still sing the first verse and chorus.
Q: Name some artists that musically inspire you?
A: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Stevie Wonder, Robin Thicke, Nirvana, Missy Elliott, Aretha Franklin, DJ Premiere, Claude Debussy, Cold Play, and Nicolay, just to name a few.
Q: If you could collaborate with anyone, who would it be?
A: My dream R & B/Soul collaboration would be with Robin Thicke. Anyone who truly knows me knows that I would LOVE to work with him. He's my brother from another mother :-). He's brilliant. My dream Hip Hop collaboration would have to be with Talib Kweli or Phonte from Little Brother. I'm huge fans of both of them and I really connect with their writing styles.
